There is a veritable list of billionaires who started their careers in banking: Jamie Dimon, Stephen Schwarzman, Leon Black, Paul Taubman, and many others. The list of former banking technologists to have become billionaires is much smaller – but it grew by one.

Vladyslav Yatsenko is stepping down as CTO of Revolut. Yatsenko co-founded Revolut in 2014 with Nik Storonsky, serving as CTO at the firm from its inception. He held a slew of roles before that, none longer than three years, including as an AVP in market risk for Deutsche Bank, as a senior Java developer at UBS, and as a senior software engineer at Credit Suisse.

Pay for banking technologists can be pretty good. Our 2026 Compensation & Lifestyle Report found that it can even reach $720k per year – a tidy sum. But Yatsenko is far ahead of what any bank technologist in the world can earn, no matter how successful. Forbes listed him as having a net worth of $2.2bn, which is derived from his ~3% stake in Revolut, which was estimated in November 2025 to be worth $75bn.

An official statement from Revolut said that Yatsenko would transition to a role as non-executive director on 1 July. “We are pleased that Vlad will continue to lend his expertise to the company,” the firm said.

Yatsenko’s replacement as VP of technology is Revolut’s head of technology, Donato Lucia, who does not have any financial services experience. Instead, the Italian – who is around 38 years old – has credits at more traditional tech companies: HP and IBM, as well as online travel site lastminute.com.

Lucia joined Revolut in 2018 as a senior software engineer and was named with 16 people in the firm’s first global partnership round. An advert published in the Financial Times by Revolut at the time curiously foresaw Lucia’s place in Revolut’s executive team: “The partnership lays the foundation for a senior leaders to propel our business forward in the years to come.” Prophetic indeed.
