Annual listing ranks Minnesota’s top hospitals in 2026
U.S. News and World Report named Mayo Clinic the best medical center in the state and among the 20 best in the country.

U.S. News and World Report has once again named Rochester’s Mayo Clinic one of the nation’s top medical centers and the best hospital in Minnesota.
Mayo Clinic made the cut for the umpteenth time on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, an annual ranking by U.S. News of the 20 “best of the best” medical centers across the country.
The world-famous hospital in southern Minnesota received high marks in 14 adult specialties, including No.1 in the nation for diabetes, endocrinology and gastroenterology; No. 3 in cardiology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology; and No. 4 in cancer and rheumatology.

Additionally, U.S. News evaluated 137 hospitals in Minnesota and determined that 14 of them meet its criteria for the state’s Best Regional Hospitals ranking.
Mayo Clinic tops the statewide list, then comes M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center (No. 2) in Minneapolis, which moved up from No. 3 in 2025. It’s now nationally ranked in two adult specialties and two children’s specialties.
Two other Twin Cities hospitals, M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital (No. 3) in Edina and Allina Health United Hospital (No. 4) in St. Paul, each jumped three few spots this year into the top five.
Previously the state’s No. 2, CentraCare- St. Cloud Hospital fell to No. 5.

- No. 1: Mayo Clinic in Rochester
- No. 2: M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis
- No. 3: M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina
- No. 4: Allina Health United Hospital in St. Paul
- No. 5: CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital
- No. 6: Allina Health Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and Allina Health Mercy Hospital- Coon Rapids (tie)
- No. 8: Mayo Clinic Health System- Mankato and M Health Fairview St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul (tie)
- No. 10: M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, M Health Fairview Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, and Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park (tie)
- No. 13: Regions Hospital in St. Paul
- No. 14: Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth
