An East Los Angeles AutoZone was ransacked during an illegal street takeover early Sunday, marking the second time in about 24 hours the same store was targeted during a takeover.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded around 3 a.m. to another street takeover near Olympic Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, where authorities said some people broke away from the gathering and entered the AutoZone.

Merchandise was stolen and the store was left heavily damaged, according to authorities. It was not immediately clear whether any arrests were made.

The latest break-in caused significantly more damage than the first, according to information from the scene. Shelves that still contained merchandise after Saturday’s incident were emptied, including shelves used to store car batteries.

Windows were shattered, cash registers were left on the floor and the store’s computers were damaged. Wiring and other parts of the electrical system were also destroyed.

The store’s manager said the AutoZone is expected to remain closed for two to three days while the electrical system and other damage are repaired. Employees will not be paid for the days they are unable to work, according to information from the scene.

A boarded-up entrance from the previous break-in was still visible when the store was targeted again Sunday.

The first incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, when sheriff’s deputies responded to a break-in at the same AutoZone during another street takeover at Olympic and Atlantic boulevards.

Authorities said spectators from that takeover were believed to have ransacked the store and shattered a window. No arrests were reported in connection with Saturday’s incident.

Several hours later Saturday, a separate street takeover in Los Angeles’ Gramercy Park neighborhood also turned destructive.

Los Angeles police responded shortly before 5 a.m. to Century Boulevard and Western Avenue, where officers dispersed vehicles and discovered a car fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the intersection.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze. It was unclear how the car caught fire or whether anyone was inside.

Authorities have not indicated that the Gramercy Park incident was connected to the East Los Angeles takeovers.
