( NewsNation) — An Indian company is voluntarily recalling more than 11,000 bottles of blood pressure medication because of failed dissolution testing.
The recall applies to 100 and 1,000 tablet bottles of Chlorthalidone sold nationwide because they “failed dissolution specifications,” according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Dissolution testing evaluates how well a drug dissolves and releases its active ingredients when placed in liquid, according to pharmaceutical technology company Pion. This helps to “assess the performance and quality of different drug formulations, as well as to ensure consistency in drug release between different batches.”

Chlorthalidone, a diuretic medication, is used to treat high blood pressure and can also reduce swelling related to heart, kidney, or liver disease, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
