Buc-ee’s suing mini mart in Beavercreek, Ohio over logo branding

Buc-ee's, the popular convenience store chain that just opened its first store in Ohio, is suing a small convenience store alleging trademark infringement.
The store at the center of the suit is Beaver's Mini Mart in Beavercreek, Ohio. The small business has now found itself in the national spotlight over the suit.

Buc-ee's filed the lawsuit in late July, alleging the store infringed on its registered trademarks, using a cartoon beaver logo and red coloring that closely mimic its famous branding.
In the suit, Buc-ee's states the company has been using the name, cartoon beaver logo for over four decades and holds numerous federal trademark registrations.
Buc-ee's claims the Beaver's Mini Mart started using the marks after Buc-ee's had established the trademarks rights, and without authorization. The complaint alleges the logo could create "confusion among consumers" about if the store is associated with Buc-ee's.
The news of the lawsuit created some backlash in the community, with some even organizing "cash mobs" to support the Beaver's Mini Mart.
Some neighboring businesses and chains also joined in to support the mini mart. Hot Heads Burritos shared a message of support, saying, "apparently every local logo needs a beaver now, so welcome to Hot Head Burrito-ees. Our lawyers are currently on lunch."

It's not the first time the large convenience store chain has filed a trademark suit. There have been similar, including Ohio-based Mickey Mart.
Buc-ee's opened its first store in Ohio this year in Huber Heights. The store opening was met with a lot of customer excitement with lines out the door.
