(NEXSTAR) – Those who were impacted by the alleged “deceptive methods” Amazon used for Prime subscriptions have just days to file a claim to receive part of a $2.5 billion settlement.

Amazon settled with the Federal Trade Commission last year after the company was accused of using “deceptive methods” to register millions of customers for paid Prime subscriptions, then making it difficult for those customers to cancel. Amazon agreed to pay a $2.5 billion settlement ($1.5 billion will fund customer refunds) and to “ cease unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices for Prime.”

Amazon, which did not admit wrongdoing, previously said that while it has “always followed the law … this settlement allows us to move forward and focus on innovating for customers.”

Automatic refunds were sent out to some impacted customers already, and earlier this year, the claim process opened for other eligible Prime customers. That process closes in just a few days.

Who qualifies to file a claim?

You have to be a U.S. Prime member who signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. You also had to have “unintentionally” signed up with Amazon’s “challenged enrollment flow” or tried and failed to cancel your subscription. Further, you had to have used more than three Prime benefits, like Prime Music or Prime Video, but fewer than 10 between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.

You don’t need to verify that you meet all three conditions. Instead, the FTC said Amazon would notify qualifying customers who have not already received automatic refunds. Those claim notices were delivered to mailboxes or emails and postmarked in late January.

You will need that notice to file a claim.

How do I file a claim?

You can do so online via the settlement website. You’ll need to enter the claim ID and PIN listed on your notice. Officials warned that the process does not require you to pay a fee or enter your Social Security number or Amazon login.

There is an option to file a claim without an ID or PIN.

You will be asked to enter your address, email, and phone number or email associated with the Amazon account. The form will then ask you multiple questions to confirm you are not “a bot or person attempting to file multiple claims on behalf of other purchasers.” Then you will be asked how you would like to receive your payment and to electronically sign the form before submitting.

How much will I receive, and when is the deadline?

You have until Monday, July 27, to submit the online claim form, according to the settlement administrators.

Payments, which are capped at $51 but could be less than $1, are expected to be disbursed later this year.

There is no opt-out option, but you can choose not to file a claim, officials said.
