Dollar Tree expects to close 75 stores this fiscal year but will also continue to expand.

It did not say which locations will shut their doors.

According to Fox News, at the same time, Dollar Tree plans to open roughly 400 new stores this year.

The retailer, per the report, opened 113 stores during the first quarter, bringing its total footprint to 9,382 locations across the United States and Canada as of May 2.

There are currently 5,900 locations that sell products at various prices.

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary in 2026, we are encouraged by the progress we are seeing across the business and remain focused on making thoughtful investments in our stores, assortment and customer experience — building Dollar Tree to last for decades to come," CEO Mike Creedon said in a statement.

Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar for more than $8 billion in 2015 after a bidding war with rival Dollar General.

At an investor presentation earlier this year, the company said about 42 percent of its stores were below its standards. Creedon said that figure has since fallen to less than one-third as renovations and operational improvements continue.

“It’s less than one-third today,” Creedon told investors, per News 12. “Still not where we want it to be, but significant improvement.”
