The federal government sold Washington, D.C.’s former Old Post Office building, now a Waldorf Astoria hotel, to the firm that holds the long-term lease on the property.

The stately, historic building had been under a nearly centurylong lease agreement to be operated as a hotel. On Wednesday it was sold outright, giving full ownership of the building and the land beneath it to merchant bank BDT & MSD Partners.
