( NewsNation) — A sample of shredded iceberg lettuce from a Taylor Farms subsidiary in Mexico has tested positive for cyclospora, the stomach parasite blamed for an outbreak of explosive diarrhea illness in several states, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Saturday.
California-based Taylor Farms had already been linked the cyclospora cases, but the FDA noted the positive test was from a product not included in current recalls but collected as part of an ongoing investigation.
“Taylor Farms has confirmed that this positive product is not part of their current recall. They are currently working to identify whether any part of this implicated lot is available in commerce or in consumers homes,” officials said.
Product that tested positive has been detained, the FDA said.
Taylor Farms de Mexico previously announced it is voluntarily removing iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market. This includes Marketside brand packages available at Walmart:
-12-oz and 24-oz Iceberg Salad with Best if Used By dates 7/18/2026 to 8/3/2026
-8-oz and 16-oz Shredded Lettuce with Best if Used By dates July 18th to Aug 3rd 2026
More information about recalled products can be found here.
Taco Bell announced late this week it will remove lettuce from select stores after health officials linked the chain to a nationwide outbreak of a parasitic illness. Taylor Farms supplies produce to Taco Bell restaurants in several states.
Some health experts caution that there could be multiple sources of the cyclospora outbreak.
