Verizon customers across Southern California were experiencing service outages Sunday after multiple fiber lines were vandalized, the company said.
The damage was affecting some wireless and internet customers in Los Angeles and other parts of the region, according to a Verizon spokesperson. The company did not specify exactly where the vandalism occurred or how many customers were impacted.
“Multiple fiber cuts related to vandalism are causing a service interruption for some mobility and internet customers in Los Angeles and parts of Southern California,” the spokesperson said.
Verizon engineers were working with third-party vendors at the affected sites to make repairs and restore service.
The company described the vandalism as a threat to public safety, saying damaged communications infrastructure can leave entire neighborhoods without access to essential services, including emergency lines and healthcare networks.
“These are not simple property crimes; they are dangerous disruptions that cut off vital lifelines for our first responders and public safety officials who rely on constant connectivity,” the spokesperson said.
Reports of Verizon outages began surfacing Sunday morning in the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles.
It was not immediately clear when service would be fully restored. Verizon urged customers experiencing problems to check the company’s network status page for updates in their area.
The company did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the vandalism or whether authorities were investigating.
