Frozen Blueberries Recalled Due to E. Coli Outbreak—12 Illnesses Reported

  • GreenWise Frozen Organic Blueberries sold in eight states are recalled due to E. coli O145 contamination.
  • Affected packages have lot code “60401” and a best-by date of February 9, 2028.
  • E. coli symptoms include stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting; seek medical care if symptoms occur.

There’s an active investigation and recall involving generic-brand frozen blueberries sold in eight states, according to an initial company announcement made by Publix and a newly published press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.12 This is due to an E. coli O145 contamination.

The product being recalled is 10-ounce packages of GreenWise Frozen Organic Blueberries sold at Publix grocery stores in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The impacted blueberries contain lot code “60401” and best-by date of February 9, 2028, printed on the packaging.

Check your frozen blueberries, and if you have the affected product on hand, dispose of them or return to your local Publix for a refund. As of July 3, there have been 12 confirmed cases of consumers with E. coli infection after eating the recalled blueberries.

Those who contract illness from E. coli bacteria may experience symptoms like stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and/or low-grade fever. If you are showing signs of foodborne illness after eating frozen blueberries, contact a healthcare provider immediately.
