If you've ever wanted to browse a furniture store while eating Swedish meatballs, you may soon get the chance.
Swedish furniture giant Ikea told USA TODAY it is planning on opening seven new locations in the U.S. through the winter of 2027. This includes six of the familiar larger-format stores and one of the chain's newer small-store formats.
Among the stores still scheduled to open in 2026 include locations in Illinois, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New York and Florida, the company said in an email to USA TODAY, with another New York location and a Colorado location set to come in early 2027.
Ikea currently operates more than 500 stores worldwide, including more than 50 in the United States.
Where is Ikea opening new locations in 2026, 2027?
Here are the seven cities that will have a new Ikea in 2026 and early 2027, along with projected opening timelines:
- Gurnee, Illinois – Fall 2026
- Tulsa, Oklahoma – Fall 2026
- Madison, Wisconsin – Late fall 2026
- SoHo neighborhood of New York City – Late fall 2026 (small-store format)
- Sarasota, Florida – Winter 2026
- Buffalo, New York – Winter 2027
- Fort Collins, Colorado – Winter 2027
Exact opening dates for each store location have yet to be determined.
These stores are in addition to stores that recently opened, including one in Chantilly, Virginia that opened its doors on June 18 and a store in Rockwall, Texas on May 13.
Ikea's parent company, Ingka Group, announced in March 2026 plans to open 20 of its small-format stores across Europe and North America. The company said the smaller-format stores are designed to be more cost-efficient, with the format able to open significantly faster than traditional stores and offer "convenient access in locations where people already do their everyday shopping."
"Investing in the new smaller stores is part of Ingka Group’s EUR 5 billion, three-year investment aimed at opening new locations and improving existing ones across most of its 32 markets," the company said in a news release.
Also called Plan and Order points, these smaller stores differ from the traditional Ikea large-format stores as it gives customers a chance to chat with workers and order furnishing solutions that "require a bit more help – such as kitchen, bathroom and closet storage systems," according to the company. Many Plan and Order stores have pick-up points, which allow customers to collect their purchases when and where it's convenient for them.
