SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —
Local leaders announced on Tuesday that a major new aircraft manufacturing plant is set to come to Ohio.
Electra, a company based in Manassas, Virginia, says that the new $850 million facility is set to be constructed in the city of Springfield over the next few years.

The new facility will be located next to the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport and is expected to bring 1,975 new jobs to the region.

"Ohio is where flight began, and the Dayton-Springfield area has become the national epicenter for advanced air mobility — the place where the next generation of aircraft is being designed, tested, and now built at scale," said Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine of the new plant. "Electra's decision to bring nearly 2,000 new jobs to Springfield will be transformative for Clark County, demonstrating Ohio’s unique ability to lead America into aviation's next era."
Springfield Mayor Rob Rue says that the development is welcome news for a region that is already known nationally as an aerospace engineering hub in the United States.
"Today’s announcement is a defining moment for Springfield and the State of Ohio, and reflects the vision our community has pursued for years to become a national leader in advanced air mobility," said Rue. "This achievement is a testament to what can happen when visionary companies, community leaders and public partners work together toward a shared goal."
He continued, "Electra’s OEM manufacturing facility and headquarters will create high-quality jobs, strengthen our economy and further establish Springfield as a destination for innovation, aerospace manufacturing and next-generation aviation. The future of flight is being built right here in Springfield."
The plant is being set up for Electra to manufacture new models of its EL9 Ultra Short aircraft.

According to Electra, the company evaluated over 140 different sites for the new plant, ultimately determining that the city of Springfield would be the best place to construct it in.
Construction on the new facility is expected to start in 2027. There was no immediate word from the company on what date it may be completed by.
The installation is just the latest of a string of new manufacturing plants to come to Ohio in recent years. Long-term statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that manufacturing jobs in Ohio have been sharply on the decline over the past three decades. However, despite this, the state's manufacturing sector has seen a slight resurgence since 2020, even as it continues to remain far below historical levels.
