Highflying memory-chip stocks Micron Technology ( MU) and Sandisk ( SNDK) tumbled on Friday after hitting record highs on Wednesday.
In afternoon trades on the stock market today, Micron fell more than 8% to 908.08. It reached an all-time high of 1,089.29 on Wednesday amid booming sales related to data centers running artificial intelligence applications.

Sandisk stock sank more than 8% to 1,608.52 in afternoon trading.
Seagate Technology ( STX) and Western Digital ( WDC), which make hard-disk drives for data storage, also retreated on Friday.
In recent trades, Seagate stock dropped more than 5% to 878.83. It notched a record high 966.80 on Wednesday. Western Digital shares slid more than 7% to 534. WD stock hit an all-time high 602.54 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia semiconductor index, known as SOX, plunged nearly 7% on Friday. It also hit a record high on Wednesday. The SOX includes the 30 largest semiconductor stocks traded in the U.S. Micron stock is on the SOX as are Nvidia ( NVDA), TSMC ( TSM), Broadcom ( AVGO) and others.
Semiconductor stocks broadly have sold off since Broadcom delivered a good, but not great, earnings report for its fiscal second quarter late Wednesday.
Micron is on the IBD 50 and Tech Leaders stock lists. Sandisk is on the IPO Leaders and Tech Leaders stock lists.
