Emergency responders were waiting on the tarmac as the plane touched down at LAX, but it was too late. Paramedics were unable to revive the passenger and firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.
It remains unclear what triggered the sudden in-flight medical emergency and authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
Southwest Airlines acknowledged in a statement that a “medical incident involving a customer” had occurred aboard the flight but no further details were provided, according to NBC4.
