UPDATE: After holiday storms in NYC, power outages bleed into Sunday >>

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- More than 1,000 Con Edison customers were without power Saturday morning as outages continued across Staten Island amid a dangerous heat wave.

According to Con Edison’s online outage map, there were 1,554 Staten Island residents without power as of 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.

While still high, the number represents a marked improvement from Friday night, when as many as 8,000 customers in the borough were without power.

The outages come following consecutive days of near-100-degree temperatures and coincided with windy conditions on Friday that contributed to downed trees, transportation disruptions and scattered service interruptions across the borough.

The outages have not been limited to any particular part of the borough, with neighborhoods from the North Shore to the South Shore and everywhere in between impacted.

Customers can report outages and check restoration estimates through Con Edison’s outage reporting system, mobile app or customer service hotline.
