( KRON) — A Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers has now impacted people across 27 states, including California. That’s the latest from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which said Wednesday that some 345 people across the country had been sickened by the same Salmonella strain.
The jalapenos tied to the outbreak have been traced to Sinaloa, Mexico and were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. The peppers, according to the CDC, were primarily distributed to restaurants and wholesalers.

The distributor has notified its customers and is issuing a recall.
Major Mexican food chains Chipotle and Qdoba stopped serving impacted jalapenos on news of the outbreak. The CDC said that given their actions to remove the products from stores, neither Qdoba or Chipotle should be currently considered an ongoing risk.

According to the CDC, the Food and Drug Administration is still working to determine if any of the recalled jalapenos wound up in grocery stores.
The CDC first stated that 27 people have been hospitalized in connection to the outbreak. However, the agency later clarified that number as 36.
No deaths have been reported in connection to the outbreak.
