Three Infant Botulism Cases Linked to Recalled Baby Formula

Three infants in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington have been diagnosed with botulism after drinking a brand of powdered baby formula, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Humboldt County health officials.
The CDC said the babies, who range in age from 2 to 5 months old, were all hospitalized and treated with BabyBIG, the only FDA-approved treatment for infant botulism. No deaths have been reported. All three infants had consumed Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula.
Nara Organics recalled the product on June 13. The recall covers all lot numbers and both sizes of cans, which are sold online and at some major retailers nationwide.
Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Candy Stockton issued a local alert listing 16 specific lot numbers tied to the recall:

Health officials are urging parents and caregivers who have any of this formula to stop using it right away. Unopened cans should be thrown away or returned. Opened cans should be labeled “DO NOT USE” and kept in a safe place, away from other baby food, for at least a month in case state health officials need to test them.
Infant botulism often starts with constipation and can progress to difficulty feeding, a weak cry, poor head control and reduced facial expression. Symptoms can take several weeks to appear, so parents whose babies consumed the formula are advised to watch them for a month after the last time it was used. Parents who notice these signs should seek medical care right away.
Physicians who suspect a case of infant botulism are asked to call California’s Infant Botulism Treatment and Prevention Program at (510) 231-7600, the only source for BabyBIG, and to notify Humboldt County Public Health at (707) 268-2182 during business hours or (707) 445-7251 after hours, on weekends or on holidays. Providers are also asked to save any leftover formula powder along with the brand and lot number, if possible.
Testing of both opened and unopened cans of the formula is underway, with results expected in the coming weeks, according to the CDC.

Lately, there’s a segment of society who now drive Subarus. Subaru used to be Nakajima Aircraft Company. That’s right, the same company who made Zeros and other planes using slave labor provided by Allied POWs in WWII.
i wonder how many members of these segments of society are driving cars made by companies founded in Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to No Kings Rallies while their children, grandchildren or great grandchildren are sucking a bottle of botulism made in Germany? You’d think that a NATO member who pays so little for their defense could divert some of that money saved to testing and sterile production facilities.

Unless a mother is unable to produce breast milk, or other legit medical reason, they have no reason not to breast feed their baby. The benefits of breast feeding far out weigh the lazy convenience or buying chemical formula!

It’s not any more “chemical” than milk.
Formulas are made of 6 basic components – protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients such as probiotics and prebiotics.

While I agree about the benefits of breast feeding, how mothers feed their babies is none of our business; we don’t know their stories or circumstances, so let’s try not to assume “lazy convenience”.

Thank you. Despite my desire, I was unable to nurse my babies as I did not produce enough milk and naturally dried within a few weeks after delivery. With my first baby, I took a lot of shit from “lactation specialists” who also accused me of not trying hard enough. With the birth of my son, I refused help from these so-called lactation specialists. I wasnt going to subject myself to their verbal abuse. So yeah. All these women who denigrate others who are unable to breastfeed just
need to hush up and mind their own business.
