In a Truth Social post Monday night, President Donald Trump warned that “big problems lie ahead” for gas stations that don’t lower their prices “IMMEDIATELY!”

“Gasoline Retailers must get their Prices down, IMMEDIATELY! They’re too high considering that Oil is now at $68 a Barrel, and heading south. The Retailers must quickly react to this statement, and do what they know is right — DROP YOUR PRICE FOR OUR GREAT AMERICAN PEOPLE! There will be no gauging, which is totally illegal. If Retailers don’t do this, big problems lie ahead! Start targeting around the $2.50 a Gallon number, and California should stop charging such heavy Taxes on their Gasoline," Trump said in the post.

The president then complained that California’s gas tax will eventually be higher than gas itself “and the United States will not stand for it, nor will the People of California, who are being abused by these ridiculous Taxes, and by their own Government.”

Trump’s warning and meddling into private industry drew comparisons to his political nemesis, former President Joe Biden, who was criticized for making the same plea in 2022.

“Sounds like something a communist leader would say,” the Republicans against Trump account on X tweeted in response to the president’s post.

“The Joe Bidening of Trump’s presidency” is how X user Drew Savicki, who has more than 52,000 followers on the social media platform, reacted to Trump’s Truth post.

“Like the tyrant he has become, Trump is threatening gasoline retailers to lower their prices or face retribution. If Trump wanted lower gasoline prices, maybe he shouldn’t have started the war with Iran that put a chokehold on 20 million barrels of oil a day,” tweeted@HealthRanger, followed by more than 388,000 X users. “Blaming gas stations for high prices on oil-derived products is like blaming grocery stores for higher prices of food commodities like wheat or corn.”

“This is AOC-level economics,” opined X user @Rock5491, referring to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
