This July 4th is an Independence Day like no other.

Known as a semiquincentennial, Saturday, July 4th marks 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. While a typical July 4th is marked with cookouts and fireworks, this one has included months of concerts, exhibits, parades and special events.

The day July 4th falls – it’s a Saturday – has also created a three-day weekend for many people with some places closed on Friday, Jan. 3. Because the official holiday falls on a Saturday, federal offices, along with many state and local ones, are closed on the closest weekday of July 3.
