Summer Sale - $1 for 3 months - Expires 8/2/26

The White House is hitting back at a report pouring cold water on President Donald Trump’s involvement in Walmart lowering some of its prices.

Walmart announced Monday that customers can expect some savings on groceries, household essentials, outdoor living, toys and apparel to “make the most of the season while spending less on the products they need, want and love most.” According to the retailer’s press release, items include a one-pound ground beef roll, corn on the cob and red cherries, among others.

Trump quickly praised the move — which includes Sam’s Club — and cited a request from his administration that he said made it happen in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

“This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots,” he went on to add.

The retailer has declined to comment beyond its press release, which does not mention the president or his administration. However, a Walmart spokesperson told The Bulwark that it began a regular price “rollback” event early last week.

The Wall Street Journal also reported this week that Walmart said on a call with Tate Bennett, the chief of staff for Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, that it already had plans in place to reduce prices on many items for the summer, including beef. The retailer implemented the price cut plans on shelves starting June 29.

Kush Desai, a special assistant to Trump and senior deputy press secretary, challenged the claims against Trump in a post on X late Thursday, arguing that the specific announcement was to extend the sale for “all summer long.”“This is a big win for Americans,” Desai wrote. “The media’s obsessive need to try to undermine any good news when it affects President Trump is pathological.”He wrote in an earlier post that “Walmart’s historic summer-long sale on beef and other essentials is the result of this Admin cutting red tape, slashing taxes, and ramping up domestic food production.”“The Trump Admin stays in close contact with retailers to ensure savings are getting passed on to American consumers, and results like this prove the strategy is working,” Desai said.
