The unshakable faith of Bitcoin enthusiasts has allowed the decentralized digital currency to survive a succession of crises since its inception in 2009. Now, a new threat has appeared that’s causing growing alarm in the cryptosphere.
Quantum science that harnesses the behavior of subatomic particles is being used to create computers that could, in theory, crack the complex algorithms that prevent Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies being forged or stolen.
